Predictive AI is being used in good ways also. One important example is to design circuits for computer and other systems. However, I'm not seeing enough computer scientists involved in this aspect of machine learning application. Often when a technology becomes the big thing, even before it becomes known to the general public, the research and professional community move toward the hype. In this case, the hype is generative AI, discussions about AGI (artificial general intelligence), and big data centers which use as much energy as a city with 100,000 households.
As has been the case before, I will guess that the big win in generative (and predictive) AI will be in areas other than where the hype is. One area it where it is currently happening is in the design of circuits, both analog and digital.
